The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has submitted a detailed memorandum outlining their demands for the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The demands reflect the urgent need to adjust teachers’ salaries and allowances in response to Kenya’s challenging economic climate, including inflation, high living costs, and new statutory deductions. KUPPET’s proposals seek to address key issues like equity and fairness in pay, improved working conditions, and the recognition of teachers’ professional development efforts. Among the demands are substantial increments in basic salary (50–100%), adjustments in house, commuter, hardship, and leave allowances, and the introduction of new allowances like risk, hazardous, and standing allowances. The memorandum also emphasizes the need for comprehensive medical benefits, an overtime allowance, and better support for teachers’ career progression to combat stagnation. Finally, KUPPET calls for reducing the CBA cycle from four years to two to ensure timely updates that reflect dynamic economic realities and maintain fair and competitive conditions for teachers in Kenya.
